Too many American lives are being lost on our roads because we refuse to face a hard truth: illegal aliens driving without proper safeguards are killing Americans. In recent months, two separate triple-fatality crashes were caused by individuals unlawfully in our country holding commercial driver’s licenses issued by Gavin Newsom’s California administration.
One of these drivers, an illegal alien named Jashanpreet Singh (juh-SHUN-preet SING), rear-ended three innocent people at high speed, killing them and injuring others. His English proficiency was so poor he could only answer two of twelve driving-test questions correctly; he could read only one of four road signs. These are not isolated incidents — they are the predictable outcome when states issue high-risk licenses to people who aren’t even authorized to be here.
But who is held accountable? Not the rogue state governments issuing the licenses. Instead, law-abiding taxpayers foot the bill with their lives and liberty.
When California illegally licensed someone like Singh to operate a massive commercial truck on interstate highways, our nation’s safety infrastructure was betrayed. The U.S. Department of Transportation pulled over $160 million in federal funds from California because of its non-compliance — yet the problem persists.
This is not about scapegoating immigrants. It’s about enforcing our laws and insisting that anyone driving on American highways be held to American standards. On September 26, the Trump Administration enacted new regulations requiring California and all states to verify a driver’s status before granting CDL privileges, but California ignored these regulations by expanding Sing’s privileges for interstate trucking on October 15, his 21st birthday.
A 20-year-old American is considered too inexperienced to receive an interstate trucking license, and a young driver typically needs to be 25 to rent a car. If a state refuses to restore order on our highways, the federal government should suspend that state’s authority to license drivers.
We must demand three things: First, no one unlawfully present in the U.S. gets a commercial driver’s license. Second, every driver must demonstrate full English proficiency and mastery of U.S. road laws. Third, states that ignore these standards lose federal highway funding until they reform. If we allow illegal aliens to hold CDL privileges, we are choosing more fatalities, more chaos, and costly negligence over responsible governance. Let’s put America’s safety—and American lives—first.
