The organized activism against Immigration and Customs Enforcement reflects a deep cultural and political shift in America that could easily be fatal for Western Civilization. Americans would do well to learn from Europe’s mass immigration chaos while we still have time to change course. American political thinker James Burnham (who famously shifted from Trotskyism to American conservatism) warned us decades ago that liberalism could become the ideology of “Western suicide.” The modern anti-ICE movement is a terrifying and practical embodiment of his warning.
You see, the ICE protests in our big cities are not simply disagreements with immigration policy. These are active, and often violent, resistance to enforcement of national borders and laws – key components of our sovereignty. Not that many years ago, top Democrats agreed that immigration enforcement was necessary. But now, tens of thousands of individuals, including elected officials, have joined activist networks to “observe” (that means interfere) with the rule of law. The concerns we rightly hold about upholding immigration policy and national cohesion is about much more than just American law, it is a broader civilizational concern.
Western societies are sustained by shared norms and national identities. Treating enforcement agencies as enemies rather than institutions of lawful governance serves not to reform but to destroy our foundations like the Constitution itself. We are one nation, e pluribus unum – out of many one. One people, one language, one culture of liberty driven by self-government. Shattering that identity, violently resisting the keepers of the rule of law, and opening the floodgates of the failed “multiculturalism” is tantamount to national suicide. But that’s exactly why the left’s foot soldiers are willing to risk confrontation with federal officers, even bodily harm! They view this fight over immigration not simply as policy, but an ideological commitment. The purpose of anti-ICE activism is not to reform our system, but to destroy our traditional institutions and replacement entirely with a supreme state.
