There’s a distinct hypocrisy when it comes to the leftists’ views of men and women. On the one hand, they say women are uniquely valuable as a crucial part of our society. On the other hand, they say women are interchangeable with men and have no real value in and of themselves. Katy Faust of the organization Them Before Us pointed this out recently in an article for the Federalist.
In the article, Faust told the story of two bills that went through the legislature in Washington state. One bill from 2018 scrubbed every reference to mothers or fathers from every law on the books. The goal of the bill was to further legitimatize same-sex couples by publicizing that children don’t need the influence of a mother and a father for healthy development. In contrast, Faust described a bill from this legislative session which would require the boards of directors for every company to have at least 25% representation from women. Presumably, the purpose of this legislation is to recognize that women have a unique and valuable contribution to make in the corporate sphere.
Well, which is it? Liberals have to decide if women are valuable or not. It’s completely absurd to say that women can make a positive contribution in the boardroom but not at home. As Katy Faust put it, “I can tell you the research on sex-specific parental involvement is conclusive: Neither mother nor father are optional. That’s because men and women are different and thus interact with children in wonderfully sex-specific ways.” Faust is right to point out this truth. Kids really do need moms and dads. Any child development specialist will tell you the same thing. Only in politics could we get so wrapped up in rhetoric that we miss the fundamental bond between child and parent.
It’s time we cut the talking points and get back to talking about what really matters. Healthy kids need both moms and dads. No matter how loving a father may be, he cannot replace a mother. If our nation is going to encourage the very best atmosphere for the next generation of citizens, we should immediately recognize the unique value of mothers everywhere.
