Washington, D.C.: Louisiana has become the sixth state to pass the Heartbeat Bill into law this year. Democrat Governor John Bel Edwards announced his intent to break with his party and sign the bill, which he did last night.
“This is an incredible victory — for the right to life, for the people of Louisiana, and for future elections,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “The notion of a red state Democrat breaking with his party on abortion in 2019 is unthinkable. The Democrats have made it clear they do not tolerate pro-lifers in their party.
“Governor Edwards is taking a bold stand for the safety of Louisianans. I applaud him for sticking to principle and adding Louisiana to the growing list of states standing up for the rights of their most innocent citizens.”
