St. Louis, MO: A new extensive report released by the Government Accountability Office yesterday shows nearly $1.5 billion tax dollars went to abortion providers like Planned Parenthood Federation of America and International Planned Parenthood Federation between 2013 and 2015. This report was requested by several members of the House and Senate in 2016, including our own Missouri Senator Roy Blunt as well Senators James Lankford of Oklahoma and Joni Ernst of Iowa.
"It is appalling that taxpayers are forced to support abortion providers at all," said Ed Martin, President of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. "This new report shows a number even more outrageous than we previously knew.
"We applaud President Trump's 2017 reinstatement of the Mexico City Policy, which denies federal foreign aid to entities that provide abortion services. This new GAO report shows a shocking lack of transparency in our domestic spending. We call on the White House and Congress to end this abhorrent use of Americans' hard-earned money.
"Phyllis Schlafly was quite close with Congressman Henry Hyde of Illinois, for whom the federal Hyde Amendment is named. For 40 years this amendment has stood between federal tax dollars and abortions, but we see now that the federal bureaucracy has abused the letter of the law and acted without accountability."
