Senate race between Peters and James tightens with only weeks to go.
Washington, D.C.: With less than 100 days to go until Election Day, the Michigan U.S. Senate race is in full swing. Incumbent Gary Peters is losing his lead and fundraising edge to John James.
“Weeks ago I sent a letter to Senator Peters asking him to break with Democrat leadership and condemn attacks on the Catholic faith of nominees and officeholders,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “He has not acknowledged our communication and continues to ignore the desperate need for this vital addition to the Democrat platform. In a race as tight as his, voters are closely watching his performance in the issues that matter to them. Senator Peters would do well to fight against Democrat abuse in the confirmation process.”
Last month a new coalition of Catholic leaders called on five vulnerable Democrat U.S. Senators to break with the typical Democrat stance on this issue. Read more about the Catholic Coalition Against Religious Tests for Office and letters they sent to U.S. senators here. The coalition is asking them to sponsor a Democrat Party platform plank in Milwaukee that bans “religious tests” against Catholics in public office.
The Coalition’s momentum has been widely noted by Real Clear Politics, Breitbart, Politico, and many more. Visit PhyllisSchlafly.com/CatholicCoalition for more information.
