Congressman Must Use Leadership Opportunity For Serious Spending Change
Washington, D.C.: “Our good friend and a good conservative Congressman Jason Smith (MO-8) was elected Chairman yesterday of the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “Jason Smith has long been a friend of the Eagles and our fundamental conservative issues. He was elected to Congress over a great set of beliefs and goals and has been sent back time and again.
“I am grateful for his service in the House these last 9 years and I congratulate him on this huge responsibility as Ways and Means Chairman. There is a lot of work to be done to stop the out-of–control spending spree in Washington. Both parties have contributed to this mess. Lots of Republicans preach fiscal responsibility on the campaign trail but they do nothing to practice it once they’re in Congress. Time for change!
“I am hopeful that Chairman Smith will hold fast to his stated principles of slashing federal spending, and I hope that all good conservatives will help us in seeing that spending slash achieved, especially the voters of Missouri’s 8th District!”
