Pence’s Denial of FBI Criticism is Dangerous and Flirtatiously Anti-Limited Government
Washington, D.C.: “Even as we still relish the victory over Liz Cheney in Wyoming, let us remember that the echoes of establishment Republicanism are not yet dead!” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “This week, former Vice President Mike Pence took the opportunity to call for transparency and accountability from the DOJ over the Trump Mar-a-Lago raid, but he took a sharp turn in criticizing Members of Congress who have called for accountability actions to be taken against the corrupt FBI itself.
“Ultimately, Pence is right in recognizing the politicization of corruption permeating our Department of Justice. I disagree, however, and must warn my fellow conservatives not to fall into the trap of hiding behind an empty use of ‘law or order’ or ‘back the blue’ or ‘support the troops!’ These trite slogans, while well-intentioned every one of them, are echoes of an old GOP that died Tuesday night with the last of the Bush-Cheney dynasty.
“Instead, we must have bold Republican leaders, not pale pastels of the past, who understand we can support the patriotic law enforcement officers while still dismantling the fundamentally corrupt system that employs them. It’s time for conservatives to get even more serious about dismantling the tyrannical Administrative State. We need that leadership now more than ever! Mr. Pence, put those trite phrases of the 2000s behind you, and stand with conservatives who are ready to face down corruption and beat Big Government.”
