Some California state and local employees were required to attend some very strange state-mandated “training programs” this past summer. Were these programs to promote improved job performance? Well, judge for yourself.
One three-hour session was called “Cultural Awareness Training.” The employees were divided into groups and told to imagine that they were a handful of survivors of a plane crash on an island, or in a desert, or in a jungle.
The employees were required to discuss and reach a consensus on how they would live for the first two days, then for the next couple of years, and finally for the next 50 years. They were told to develop their own “culture” since they were pretending to be the only people left in the world.
In many offices, there are more women than men, so the “training sessions” likewise had a disproportionate number of women. They were told that, since “survival” was the criterion for conduct, the dozen women in the group should all have sex with one man in order that the human race survive.
The employees who participated in this “training” are still wondering why they were put through this foolish exercise on the job and for what they were really being trained. Others recognized the “training” as the technique called “values clarification.”
Another three-hour training session was given to state and local government employees by a representative of the AIDS Foundation. One portion of the workshop gave useful information about the medical symptoms of AIDS, how you can get it, and how to deal with someone who has AIDS.
The “training program” also included a strong push to induce the government employees to look upon homosexuality as an acceptable lifestyle. Those who attended are still puzzled as to why they were given so-called “job training” which really indoctrinated the employees with the trendy mores of the times.
The printed materials provided at this “training session” purported to help employees guard against the danger of “homophobia.” That word doesn’t appear in most dictionaries, but it is sometimes used to denote a fear of homosexuals.
Here are some quotations from the materials provided at this mandatory “training program” for state workers. “Our society — the family, the church, the schools, the mass media — does an effective job in brainwashing us all against homosexuality.”
“We need a loosening of social attitudes relating to sex roles and sexual behavior. If more gay people can be open about their natural sexual orientation without censure, people will see that homosexuals are a diverse group who encompass a wide variety of lifestyles. Hopefully, homophobia will soon be on the wane.”
One of the techniques designed to reduce “homophobia” and to make the participants believe that homosexuals are no different from heterosexuals was a questionnaire designed to ridicule heterosexuals. Here is a sampling of the questions.
“What do you think caused your heterosexuality? Is it possible your heterosexuality is just a phase you’ll grow out of? Is it possible your heterosexuality stems from a neurotic fear of people of the same sex? Maybe you just need a positive gay experience?”
“Heterosexuals share a history of failure in gay relationships. Do you think you may have turned to heterosexuality because of a fear of rejection? If you’ve never slept with a person of the same sex, how do you know you wouldn’t prefer that?”
“Most child molesters are heterosexual; do you consider it safe to expose your children to heterosexuals — heterosexual teachers, especially? How can a man possibly understand what pleases a woman sexually, and vice-versa?”
“The divorce rate continues to spiral; why are there so few stable heterosexual relationships? Why are heterosexuals so promiscuous, always having affairs outside of their relationships, etc.?”
Just for fun, imagine the howl that would go up from all the liberal activist groups if state employees were taught in an on-the-job training session, complete with group-dynamics games and printed handouts, that we should never abandon fidelity to the Ten Commandments even after a plane crash on a desert island, that sex is acceptable only between one man and one woman, or that homosexuality is a perversion? It would echo and reecho from the CBS-TV News to the Centerville Gazette until the poor official who ordered the training session was forced to resign. Funny world, isn’t it.
