For years I’ve been looking for an objective statement of the policies of the American Civil Liberties Union in order to prove that they are out of the mainstream of what the American people want. Now, at last, the ACLU has produced its own summary of what it stands against on such issues as morals, obscenity, sexuality classes, abortion, crime, judicial activism, internal security, and federal power.
This revealing ACLU summary is in a flier which seeks funds from the public in order to protect America from the alleged danger of the New Right and the Religious Right. The flier sets forth in bold, black type what the New Right and Religious Right are doing, and then says it is “critical” that the ACLU “stop the New Right.”
Here is the list of New Right and Religious Right goals to which the ACILU is so bitterly opposed. The purpose of the ACLU flier is to raise funds to save America from these results. Let the ACIU flier speak for itself.
“The New Right wants to bring back prayer and Bible reading in public schools.” “The New Right wants to teach the Biblical story of creation in public schools.”
“The New Right wants no pornographic and amoral sex instruction in public schools.” “The New Right wants to oppose homosexuality because it is anti-family. Laws prohibiting discrimination against gays have failed to pass in almost every state and municipality in which they have been proposed.”
“The New Right wants to give less power to the federal government and more to state and local governments.”
“The New Right wants to stop indulgent judges from coddling hardened criminals.”
“The New Right wants to allow police to investigate and arrest lawbreakers with a minimum of red tape and bureaucratic meddling.”
“The New Right wants to revive the House Un-American Activities Committee. 159 House members have already petitioned for the revival of HUAC.”
“The New Right wants to take away a woman’s right to choose abortion.” “The New
Right wants to establish in law the philosophy that the husband is the divinely appointed head of the family.”
“Most important,” according to the ACLU, is that “The New Right wants to strip federal courts of their jurisdiction in the areas of school prayer, abortion and racial desegregation. Members of Congress have introduced over 30 bills to strip federal courts of their jurisdiction in these areas.”
If you want to oppose all these New Right goals, you can send your money to the ACLU. In order to stop the New Right’s goals, the ACLU promises “to take on more cases, testify before more legislative bodies, talk to more people.”
Other ACLU publications confirm that the ACLU is in the forefront of the drive to bring about the sexual revolution which is attempting to establish a society in which all obscenity is protected by the First Amendment.
In a 1977 Supplement to the ACLU Guide, which was partially funded by a Playboy Foundation grant, the ACLU policy on pornography was stated as follows: “The ACLU believes that the constitutional guarantees of free speech and press apply to all expression, and that all limitations of expression on the ground of obscenity are unconstitutional. The ACLU opposes all zoning plans restricting the availability of books, movies and other communications media because of their content.”
The ACLU doesn’t even believe in protecting children from the producers and purveyors of kiddie porn. The same publication continues: “While the ACLU may vigorously dislike and reject sexual exploitation of children for commercial purposes, activities in publishing and disseminating printed or visual materials are wholly protected by the First Amendment. ”
The ACLU is the brainchild of Roger Baldwin who was its guiding light for most of his life. In his 30th Harvard class reunion book, Baldwin wrote: “I am for socialism, disarmament, and ultimately for abolishing the state itself as an instrument of violence and compulsion. I seek social ownership of property, the abolition of the propertied class, and sole control by those who produce wealth. Communism is the goal.”
The above admissions by the American Civil Liberties Union prove that, if anybody is out of step with the American people, it is the ACLU.
