Trump Sending National Guard to Southern Border
The Trump administration announced in April that President Trump would sign a proclamation to send National Guard troops to the southern border immediately in response to what was described as an “unacceptable” flow of drugs, criminal activity, and illegal crossings.
As progress is made toward a real border wall, this activity is a great reminder to America First supporters that we are witnessing a White House follow through on campaign promises. This is a rare thing, indeed. Phyllis Schlafly often found herself let down and disappointed by supposed “conservatives” who would say one thing to get into office and then change their minds or beg more time once they got the votes and held the office.
During the 2016 campaign she often remarked that she truly believed Donald Trump would finally follow through and build the wall. She would remind people that Congress passed and President Bush signed the Secure Fence Act in 2006 that required 700 miles of fence be constructed along our southern border. However, only a few dozen miles of new fencing was put in place and both Congress and White House seemed to move on as if the job had been completed. This type of let down is what so many voters have become accustomed to in this country.
This behavior also explains, however, why we should not be surprised at all by rising approval numbers for Donald Trump in the White House. However you feel about his agenda, he has followed through on many of the things he promised voters he would do if elected. From tariffs and tax cuts to dismantling the individual mandate and building a wall, he has taken giant steps toward (or completed altogether) many major points from his 2016 campaign.
The idea that a politician is follow through on campaign promises is, quite frankly, shocking to many of us. Sending troops to our southern border as a caravan of unchecked immigrants marches toward us is a move that will surely move the approval ratings. It’s high time that a President talked about, let alone acted on, putting the safety, prosperity, and liberty of our own people first.
