Washington, D.C.: President Trump signed an executive order yesterday suspending immigration visas for guest-worker programs including H-1Bs and H-2Bs. This order will remain in effect through the end of the year.
“President Trump continues to deliver on his promise to protect American workers,” said Phyllis Schlafly Eagles president Ed Martin. “Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, millions of Americans remain unemployed. These American families are backed into a corner, with no way to provide for themselves. As the economy rapidly recovers, it would be absolutely disgraceful to fill American jobs with foreign workers. President Trump’s order is a necessary step forward to provide financial stability for our citizens and put American workers and families first.”
The Trump Administration stated that the reforms will “ensure businesses look to American workers first when hiring.” The executive order is an expansion of the President’s pause on new immigrant visas issued in April.
