When it comes to addressing his inflation problem, President Biden has said that no solution is off the table. He is willing to try anything, as long as it does not offend his Administration’s leftist sensibilities, of course. As oil companies struggle to keep up with demand, Biden refuses to grant new permits for domestic drilling. As gas prices skyrocket a dollar at a time, Biden suggests a gas tax holiday to temporarily reduce the problem by a measly 18.3 cents. I’ll be the first to get on board with lowering taxes, but Biden’s inflation crisis is costing a lot more than 18.3 cents. Unless we get to the bottom of this issue, Americans are not getting a good deal by settling for a temporary gas tax holiday.
To add to the list of bad ideas, Biden was also quick to embrace the prospect of peeling back some of President Trump’s tariffs on China. A move like that will do no more to end inflation than putting on a band-aid will do to cure a failing kidney. Even worse, ending tariffs on China before they stop predatory trading practices will only communicate that the American government is not serious about ensuring fair trade. How is it that President Biden can be so committed to sanctions against Russia while caring so little about an actual threat to actual Americans? Whether or not Russia was wrong to invade Ukraine, the United States does not have a personal stake in that fight. Yet, China is actively hurting American business by flouting agreed-upon trading standards. That does not even account for the deadly fentanyl flooding American streets from the Chinese drug trade.
It is clear that the primary objective of the Biden Administration is not to actually stop the inflation that is crippling American households. Rather, their primary goal is to give the appearance of taking action on inflation while continuing to execute a leftist agenda undeterred by its consequences. The American people have to see past this charade. We want tough tariffs on China and more drilling permits for domestic oil production. We demand solutions, not a destructive agenda.
