Washington, D.C.: After another month’s spike in illegal border crossings, DHS Secretary Nielsen asked Congress yesterday in hearings to close many “catch-and-release” loopholes. The increased crossings are particularly frightening when coupled with staggering numbers of acts of violence against women, sexual assaults, and a flood of new gang recruits. This is undoubtedly an emergency situation. As Secretary Nielsen said yesterday, “Today’s migrant flows have created a humanitarian crisis.”
“Democrats ignore illegal immigration and any solutions simply for electoral gains,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “Chairman Lindsey Graham said that the number of illegal immigrants projected to cross our border this year is the same as an average Congressional district. His example is spot-on, because that’s exactly how Democrats view illegal migrants — as potential voters who will overwhelmingly vote Democrat.
“Phyllis Schlafly spoke often of this disgraceful Democratic agenda. Women and children are being raped and assaulted in record numbers by traffickers. Gang members are pouring in at an unprecedented rate. Congress and the President must act to stop this truly shocking humanitarian crisis that threatens both the United States and the foreign nationals that come here. Close the border — build the wall.”
