Andrew Breitbart often said “culture is upstream of politics.” There is some truth to this statement, especially in American history. Today, though, the government has grown so centralized and so powerful that it’s telling the culture what it should be. American culture follows behind things like no fault divorce, Roe v. Wade, and other government projects. For culture to drive the government, the government has to be small, but when the CIA digs its influence into places like Hollywood for propaganda’s sake, it’s hard to say that culture has an independent direction.
Dr. Rainer Zitelmann, author of 26 books, most recently including Unbreakable Spirit: Rising Above All Odds, joins Ed to discuss his new book.
