The following is a transcript from the Pro America Report.
Welcome. Ed Martin here on the Pro America Report.
Well, I’m a little bit less energetic right now because the topic of this first segment is so brutal and so terrible, but we have to cover it. So welcome to the Pro America Report. I am Ed Martin. It’s great to be together and we have a great program. We have Chris Chmielenski of Numbers USA in a few minutes talking about the important issue, the immigration issue, and then we’ll talk with John Schlafly. We’ll catch up with John Schlafly, our weekly chat with John, who writes a weekly column over at the sister site, Townhall.com of the Salem Radio Network, where this program originates. You can check out John at Townhall.com. His website the Schlafly Report. He writes a column, website, column. That’s where you can find his column weekly called The Schlafly Report. You can also see all of John’s writings and they are archived over at PhyllisSchlafly.com. Okay, so we got a lot of that to cover.
Now, what you need to know today is sometimes it takes a terrible image, a terrible occurrence, to capture the imagination of people in such a way that it will illustrate what’s wrong. One example of that would be the Kate Steinle murder. Remember, Kate Steinle was the very pretty blonde haired woman who was, I think, on a pier in San Francisco. And those beautiful, the northern part of San Francisco, out on the bay there’s piers meaning P-I-E-R pier. You can go out and there’s some restaurants and things to do, and out there she was, and she was shot and killed by an illegal alien. And she became a template and an emblem of, unfortunately, her tragic death. And I’ve seen her father speak on it.
But you knew in 2015, 2016, when someone said Kate Steinle, you knew what that meant. It was the fact that we didn’t control the border and there were illegals here and she was killed, violent crime, et cetera. And so there’s other examples of that, but one of them right now that’s going on.
And what you need to know is this horrendous story in Ohio where a ten year old child was raped by an illegal alien. And there’s multiple aspects of the story to report, and we’ll get only at the end to the last one, which is about the abortion question. But before we get to that, if you watch the coverage of this horrendous rape, the media refused to say the background of the assailant. They refused to identify him as foreign, as having a Hispanic sounding name. It doesn’t matter if it was Hispanic, but the fact is, he was illegal. So this was an illegal alien in the country and committed this horrendous crime, and it was sort of buried by the news until it was forced out by various entities and individuals who were like, hey, what’s the story with this? And it was found.
Now this is horrendous, and this is so bad. My argument actually is against itself. I don’t think this becomes the emblem, the sort of story that’s told because it’s so tragic. Kate Steinle’s murder, she was in her 20s, maybe early 30s. It was not that it was expected, but it happens.
This isn’t supposed to happen to a ten year old, right?
And of course, the last part of this story in terms of the politics was this ten year old was brought up as an example of why abortion is necessary. Now, I have said over and over again that the examples that shouldn’t be the rule, right? You can’t let the exceptions be the rule, especially when you get engaged in debate, and I refuse to do it. I was there when they goaded Todd Akin into having a long discussion about rape and incest and all that and abortion. I was there. That was in Missouri. I was actually on the ballot that year as the attorney general nominee. And I don’t take the bait. I just don’t debate these things. Well, I’ll just tell you, I think abortion is wrong. I think it’s wrong because of morality. I think it’s wrong because of science.
But I think it’s much more important to talk about how did this ten year old get raped and why was it allowed to happen. I think that’s much more important than going into the other. Now, you can disagree, but, people do, and the left goes crazy. They want to talk about the first thing. What you need to know is the violent crime that’s happening because we’re not controlling two areas, two aspects of life, the border and our cities, the urban centers of this country. This is out of control. It is out of control. And what it does. I went to Chicago a month or two ago, and I must have had ten people tell me, be careful in Chicago. Be careful in Chicago. Boy, oh boy. It could be really, well, I didn’t have any problem in Chicago. But the reason they said that is because the South Side of Chicago is a shooting zone. The worst parts of the city are of a shooting zone.
What you need to know is we have a problem when the leading elected officials want to disregard the law. Disregard the rule of law so dramatically. Whether it’s allowing the border to happen. And therefore the drug trade to be managed by the cartels. Whether allowing the border to be open and therefore allowing sexual trafficking through the border. Whether allowing the border to be open and having bad guys come.
Remember when Donald Trump came down the escalator in Trump tower in New York City, and he gave a speech that they characterized as racist. And what he said was, it doesn’t seem like they’re sending their best from Mexico and other places. It doesn’t seem like they’re sending their best. Better way to say it is the people who control the border, the cartels, are not bringing over the best. They’re not allowing the best to come. We’re not getting AP scholars who come in. Some, some do, and some maybe if you could get a better education or get more opportunities, they might. But a lot of people that are coming are part of the world of organized crime who manages it. And so maybe we shouldn’t be surprised that we end up with illegal aliens who come and rape people. Maybe we shouldn’t be surprised.
We should be outraged, and we should stop it. But I’m not sure we should be surprised at this point. And so we now have the reality is the people who have allowed this to happen should be held responsible, period.
If it turns out that this man, this illegal, was, slipped through the cracks where people had control of them, I don’t know that yet, but I bet we’ll find out. Then they should be held accountable.
And the fact is that they won’t be. The fact is that we know now that this is acceptable to the powers that be in the White House right now, in the Congress right now. In many states right now. They just think it’s acceptable. And I think what they might say if they were being serious, and maybe they just say, we don’t care. But I think what they’d say is, we’ll take the risk. We don’t want to be people. We’ll be willing to take that risk. Well, I’m not willing to take that risk. You’re not willing to take that risk. Most Americans are not willing to take that risk. Risk.
What you need to know is the only way to stop this is to hold accountable the people that allowed it. And I mean that by holding them accountable. I’d impeach them. I would prosecute them. There’s an aspect at the last Phyllis Schlafly Collegians event, the Collegians Summit, we had Congressman Jason Smith. He actually said that Joe Biden’s failure to release the money that was already appropriated for the border wall, they complained about Trump saying he might hold back some money from Ukraine. In this case, President Biden is holding back the border money and stopping the bill, impeach everybody.
And we have to be ruthless in this, because what’s happening right now is too many people in the country, in the nation as well as in the world, are looking up and saying, these people aren’t serious, no matter what they say. I’m picking up on my theme from yesterday. No matter what they say, they’re not doing anything different. They’re not doing anything different. And we have to demand that something different happen.
And let me be clear. There’s plenty of Republicans that have allowed this to go on, too. There’s plenty of Republicans on this question of illegal immigration, question of the rule of law and crime. There’ve been plenty of Republicans that have looked the other way and sought ways of amnesty and all kinds of things.
It’s time to never, ever again have this happen to a ten year old or anybody else because we actually enforce the law. We actually control our border instead of having it controlled by the cartels and the gangs. That’s what’s at stake. And that’s what you need to know going forward. That’s what’s at stake in the fall and the next election all the time now, lawlessness.
It’s lawlessness.
Okay, we got to take a break. We’ll come back and we’ll talk with Chris Chmielenski from over at Numbers USA, one of the leading organizations that studies the impact of illegal immigration. And then we’ll catch up with John Schlafly. We’ll be right back on here on the Pro America Report.
