Washington, D.C.: Reports this morning indicate the Trump Administration will soon announce a new U.S. border and asylum policy that will restrict qualifications and benefits to remove overly-generous incentives and to better vet those who come into this nation. This report comes on the heels of a ridiculous 9th Circuit decision yesterday blocking the Trump policy of forcing migrants to stay in Mexico while awaiting their U.S. claims processing.
“The Trump Administration is signaling a great cleanup of immigration policies and enforcement this week on the heels of DHS Secretary Nielsen’s resignation,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “It’s high time the federal government cleaned up our asylum process and disincentivized illegal entry to the United States. Fast access to work permits and unrestricted release into the interior make it very lucrative to break the law by crossing our border illegally.
“The 9th Circuit decision yesterday blocking Trump’s ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy is utterly laughable. The judge essentially declared Mexico unsafe for migrants awaiting U.S. immigration decisions. President Trump is right to call our asylum program a scam. Economic immigrants, gangs, and smugglers treat our asylum program as a simple tool to get in the door and stay. It degrades our immigration system and our Republic itself. It’s also particularly hurtful to those truly seeking refuge from persecution, whom our nation has a rich history of taking in and protecting.”
