Washington, D.C.: Phyllis Schlafly Eagles President Ed Martin released the following statement:
“Governor Greg Abbott is getting to flex his state’s muscles on not only sovereignty and national security, but on recycling, too! The state of Texas has restarted the canceled border wall, and they’re using (for free) the surplus panels dropped off by the Trump Administration and abandoned by Biden.
“Since the Biden Administration canceled border wall contracts in January 2021, these 30-foot high panels have been piled up in the desert, unused. They are paid for already by taxpayer money.
“Using the federal surplus program, Texas has obtained the panels and begun construction on state-owned lands on the border. It’s a great move and we need more leadership like this from governors across the nation.
“Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is protecting kids and parents from radical ideology in education. Governor Abbott is taking action for the security of his citizens and, by extension, every American. These are great examples of states leading the nation.
“State sovereignty is a key component of American federalism, but it’s quickly being lost to the black hole of highly centralized and ever-growing federal government. Good for Governor Abbott and good for Texas!”
