Crowd Waving American Flags during the Lee Greenwood Concert
On March 1st, President Trump signed an executive order that instructed the following: “To promote unity, cultivate a shared American culture for all citizens, ensure consistency in government operations, and create a pathway to civic engagement, it is in America’s best interest for the Federal Government to designate one — and only one — official language. Establishing English as the official language will not only streamline communication but also reinforce shared national values, and create a more cohesive and efficient society. Accordingly, this order designates English as the official language of the United States.”
Phyllis Schlafly would be thrilled. Long did she call for English to be made our official language! The English language is, after all, the language of our Declaration of Independence, our Constitution, all of our laws, the naturalization Oath of Allegiance, and every State of the Union address of all 47 presidencies.
Contrary to the political left’s screeching disapproval, calling for English as our official language has never been a position of hate or bigotry. Quite the contrary, we want to bring every American in on the full experience that is America… whether they are native or not. Why would we want to deprive anyone of the ability to read and understand our founding documents and our laws? We owe it to every American to teach them how to communicate with their countrymen.
Without a doubt, knowing multiple languages and the rich cultural histories behind them is of great benefit to our people, however letting American students slip by without learning English or printing official documents in any number of languages is simply sabotaging our future and holding back our people from the full American experience. President Trump is right to embrace English as the official language of the United States of America. This is a long-worked for and long-awaited policy that will serve only to unify our people against the liberal drumbeat of multiculturalism. Join us tomorrow as we look to the words of famous Americans who fought for English as our official national language.
