The following is a transcript from the Pro America Report with Ed Martin.
Welcome, welcome. Welcome. It’s Ed Martin here on the Pro America Report. Great to be together. What a time to be alive. So much happening in the world. Pray for peace. Pray for freedom of the prisoners. So Julian Assange is out and free. It’s gonna be fascinating to see that guy write books and things about his experience. He’s going to be a communicator, as he’s been in the past, so we’ll see about that.
But welcome to the Pro America Report. Hey, proamericareport.com. Proamericareport.com go there and check it out. We’re in the middle of Collegians this week. The collegians effort, we have a summit. Phyllis Schlafly started almost 30 years ago with the summit, bringing young people together, college students to learn how things work, conservative policies, conservative principles, how they work together, how they fit into politics, and one of the things that the late Phyllis Schlafly taught us was it’s not enough to know the conservative principles. It’s not enough to know the conservative policies. You’ve got to know politics, how politics works. She used to say with a smile, Politics is where the action is, but also, if you don’t know politics, then you’re just talking about principles. You’re just talking about policies, all very valuable. Sometimes I wanna go and learn about the policies. That’s great. I wanna learn about the principles that underlie them. Fine.
But politics is how things get done. And you’ve got to live in that world and figure it out.
And she taught us that the Eagles, Phyllis Schlafly’s Eagles. We’re, our value was in knowing the conservative principles, rock solid, knowing the conservative policies, rock solid, and then knowing how politics works. That’s what we do.
So I woke up this morning and I saw in Politico coverage of an op-ed. Written by Mike Pence. So now remember, it’s three days before the first debate you’re watching. You’ve been watching for months, the frothing of the Biden administration that is in the throes, the death throes of the liberal women of this country. They have control of the Democrat Party. And Joe Biden. Look at his wife. Look at what’s going on.
And so you’ve been watching this and they’ve been rattling, rattling, rattling about Roe V Wade and Dobbs and abortion and wanting to talk about that. And Donald Trump, who I saw last weekend in Washington, DC, give a speech to, I don’t know, 3,000 conservatives. They did it in Philadelphia.
He said, look, I delivered. On being pro-life. Actually, what he really said was I delivered on my promises. And and and including pro-life judges and policies. But I, let me expand.
This a little bit. One of the reasons Donald Trump is, in my opinion, is very popular. One of the reasons he’s popular, in my opinion, is because people that know and see and can hear. He is he comes across as authentic, now I think he is authentic. I happen to know him a little bit, but it just doesn’t. It matters how he comes across.
You know, I think it was Bill Clinton said, hey, sincerity is everything in life. And once you learn how to fake that, you’ve got it made. That’s how Clinton felt. If you saw Clinton in person, he was very charismatic, seemed very sincere. He he. Seemed to be faking it.
I think Donald Trump is authentic, but you get what you you you what You you get what you see. You. You. He’s not hiding who he is.
And he ran for office, for example, and he said, I’m gonna move the embassy. The embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. That’s who the Israeli government. That’s where the Israeli Government says their capital is. Why do I think I should put it somewhere else? Every president, both parties ran, ran for president, saying they’d do that. None of them did it.
He tells the story that they that they started coming to him and said and calling from all over the world. Other leaders. Please don’t move it. Please don’t move it. We don’t wanna move ours. It’s too much trouble. It’s too dangerous to and he ignored it and he did it.
He appointed conservative judges. He did it, he got Roe V Wade reversed, which people didn’t think could happen and he did it by picking the right judges and sticking with them.
Now you have Mike Pence, who has refused to endorse Donald Trump for president, and now three days before the CNN, now understand you gotta know how politics is played. Mike Pence is doing that. That is a kick to the teeth of Donald Trump and more importantly, if you know politics, it’s meant to give Jake Tapper and Dana Bash an opportunity to say to the world your own Vice president put out an op-ed saying we should push for a federal ban on abortion. You disagree?
And now he’s trying. They’re trying. Mike Pence is trying to damage Donald Trump.
Now, why? I’ll get to that in a minute, but let me say something about who. There is a certain class of elected officials in the last 30 years who came up in Congress and in governorships, and they say they’re pro-life. But they never deliver. And it’s not so much that they’re liars. They are.
It’s that they’re frauds. When they get the power. They run for cover. When the when the culture war breaks out, they’re summer soldiers. You know that phrase, summer soldier, summer soldier, the the, the, the famous Thomas Paine. American Crisis. It’s extraordinary.
It opens up. These are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the Sunshine Patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country. But he that stands by it now deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny like hell is not easily conquered, yet we have this consolation with us that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. The summer soldier. Paul Ryan. His entire career I am pro-life. I’m pro-life. I’m Paul Ryan. I’m pro-life. He gets to be speaker of the house. Does he lead with pro-life legislation? No. Does he defund Planned Parenthood? No. Does he quit? Yes. Does he quit with lots of money? That was raised because he was speaker? Yeah. This is not a profile in courage. This is a summer soldier.
Mike Pence, when he was governor of Indiana. He decided that the law that he’d signed that would have protected the definition of marriage in his state, Indiana, it was too controversial because the media was screaming and yelling and and businesses were saying we’re gonna move out of Indiana and he was governor. And he caved. Summer soldier. Summer soldier.
And I actually don’t blame him on the caving. I understand it because I understand politics. If I was him, I wouldn’t have done it. But if I was him, I would have controlled the environment so that they wouldn’t have passed it if I didn’t want it. I would have known how to play the game. He lost his way, didn’t know how to play the game at the highest levels, whether he’s lazy, whether he was arrogant, whatever it was, he made a bad play and he got stuck with it.
And so what did he do? Summer Soldier, summer soldier.
Now Mike Pence, he’s not saying some truth about who he is because he’s a fraud. He’s a summer soldier. He’s saying what’s convenient because why? Because, you know, it’s presidential fever is you’re only able to get presidential fever. It’s a presidential fever, is a very specific fever that that it’s a, it’s a virus that you get. But you can only get it. If you have certain characteristics, the characteristics are major party candidate for President. Or Vice President or President, I suppose if you if you lost like Trump did you, you know, once someone is either President, Vice president or a major party candidate, they can’t get over it. Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, John McCain while he was alive, Mitt Romney, they they can’t get over it. And then also Dan Quayle, the vice presidents want it. Mike Pence, Al Gore. Al Gore got over it the best, I’m sure it comes rushing back sometimes.
But Mike Pence, presidential fever. It it, all he’s doing. In the days before a debate is putting the hot seat on Trump. Putting Trump in a box and trying to help himself look like he’s conservative.
But when he was in Congress, when his best pal, Paul Ryan, was speaker, he could have called him up and said let’s do it. Paul, let’s defund Planned Parenthood. Let’s push. Let’s put it’s it’s for show.
And here’s where it gets Ugly. The summer soldiers that are all around us in Congress and the Senate and governor’s offices, they’re supported, they’re funded by a class of, they’re not grifters. The class that does it. They’re people that are either too dumb to realize or they know what’s going on and maybe they’re naive, but maybe they just like the way it’s going. In other words, they give awards to Mike Pence for his incredible op-ed and his incredible stand that he he would have the courage to stand for an abortion ban when he has no power and he has no future in power. Why? Because he played politics. Which is where you make a difference for your conservative principles and your conservative policies. It’s in politics, and he played it terribly and he’s a loser now and he will never be in power. So now he’s summer soldier, grandstanding to the detriment of whom? To the detriment of Trump, but also to the detriment of the more conservative party on life.
Again, you you don’t get to imagine the political parties when the Kingdom comes and there’s perfection reigning. There’ll be no political parties, thankfully. You have to live. And understand the reality we’re in.
And what the summer soldier knows is when the bullets, the actual bullets come flying. They’re they’re heading in retreat. They’re heading out to pasture, usually with lots of money, big houses flying all over the world. Ohh, Mike Pence is being feted by the blah, blah blah conservative group in Chicago. They’re going to give an award for standing up for life. And around and will be clapping people that either don’t know better. Or they’re in on it.
But if you want to make a difference. Make Donald Trump better no doubt make every every, every one of these people better, but understand if you want conservative politics. Excuse me, conservative principles and conservative policies to end up implemented. You’ve got to play the game of politics and Mike Pence is a summer soldier and the rest of us have to soldier on in this fight. And we will and we will. But thankfully he won’t be one of our leaders.
Alright, that’s all I’ve got. Ed Martin here. Pro America Report. Check it out. Proamericareport.com be right back.
