Washington, D.C.: Yesterday, Phyllis Schlafly Eagles president Ed Martin sent a letter to MSNBC’s Soledad O’Brien, correcting a very disappointing segment on her program “Matter of Fact” that peddled a slough of factual inaccuracies about the Equal Rights Amendment.
“Soledad O’Brien’s reporting on the Equal Rights Amendment failed to address a number of critical issues,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “It was a pro-ERA propaganda piece and quite undeserving of the words ‘news’ or ‘reporting.’ Notably, O’Brien failed to mention the most basic problems with resurrecting ERA – that five states voted to rescind their ratification, that the precedent seven-year ratification deadline is long expired, and that even with the three-year ratification extension given by Congress, the Supreme Court declared ERA dead decades ago.
“It’s no wonder the American people are rejecting mainstream ‘news.’ Ms. O’Brien’s fictitious and mischaracterizing reporting is a chief example of why mainstream media has been labeled as Fake News.”
