Washington, D.C.: “Not to be outdone by the Soros-backed district attorneys across the nation, the entire state of Illinois is on the verge of allowing lawlessness and chaos to rule,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “The so-called ‘SAFE-T Act’ is set to go into effect in January 2023. Since its passage in the general assembly and signature by Governor Pritzker, it has raised the ire of residents and local officials across the state.
“Cash-bail will be done away with, instead relying only on the discretion of a judge and electronic monitoring. The kicker, however, is that a 48-hour waiting period will be in place before officers can respond to violations of the electronic monitoring. As Mayor Keith Pekau of Orland Park, IL, aptly noted: offenders could ‘almost drive to Alaska before we can even look for them.'”
“Truly the dystopian visions of lawless streets are coming to pass, and we must fight it tooth and nail. Heaven only knows what will become of Illinois next year. We’re going to need state officials and legislators with the mettle needed to stand up for their own citizens.”
