Momentum For Security as Legislatures Rebuff Private Funds For Elections
Washington, D.C.: “During the 2020 election cycle, Facebook mogul Mark Zuckerberg spent nearly half a billion dollars on public elections across several states,” said Phyllis Schlafly Eagles President Ed Martin. “Let me be clear, there should be absolutely no private funding of our public elections. Zuck can try to explain away his hundreds of millions of dollars spent, but it doesn’t hide his funding and targeted takeover of public election operations.
“Pennsylvania is the latest state to fight back against this corruption, and good for them! Monday, Governor Tom Wolf signed the GOP-majority legislature’s SB982 that mandates public officials can’t ‘solicit, apply for’ or enter into any agreements relating to donations, grants, funding, or gifts from any individual or nongovernmental entity.”
Martin continued, “This is a huge, commonsense win for election security in Pennsylvania and should be an energizer for other states. Every legislature that hasn’t yet addressed this issue ought to call a special session if needed to address this vital security matter in their upcoming midterm elections.
“If the citizens can’t have confidence in their vote, where does that leave our representative republic? Bravo Pennsylvania! Now let’s shut down private funding of elections in all fifty states.”
