Governor Signs Voter ID, Audit, & Cybersecurity Measure
Washington, D.C.: “Missouri has been a national leader on issues like the fight for life and medical freedom, and now they’re leading the way in securing voters’ confidence in their elections,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “With Governor Mike Parson’s signature on the legislatures’s great work on HB 1878, Missouri voters will be assured that their elections are run securely and transparently.”
Among other provisions, HB 1878 requires voter roll and cyber security audits by the Secretary of State, prohibits the use of insecure ballot drop boxes, bans private funding of elections, requires photo ID, and puts stringent requirements on electronic machines to be properly “air gapped” and protected from tampering.
Martin continued, “From identification to paper ballots to auditing the rolls, this new Missouri election law is a dream list for watchdogs on Government transparency and secure elections. In the last two years, voters across the nation have been nagged by questions and doubts about their most fundamental responsibility in our representative system. State legislatures ought to follow Missouri’s lead in making sure that voters have faith and confidence in their solemn civic responsibility of voting.
“Bravo, Missouri, and best of luck to Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft as his office moves forward to implement these great election protections.
