I am always amazed by how rapid the downward spiral has been for the Democrat Party. In 2008, candidate Barack Obama won the presidency promising not to support homosexual marriage. In 2015, he ordered rainbow lights to be projected onto the White House to show his support for the very opposite. Likewise, Senator Joe Biden supported securing the southern border in 2006, but will do no such thing as president. However, perhaps the biggest about-face of the Democrat Party came between 2016 and 2020, a span of only four years during which time they went from claiming that the presidential election was stolen to claiming that anyone who questions the validity of an election is a traitor who should be castigated from society.
To give a little reality check, let’s consider the case of Guillermina Fuentes. Fuentes is a 66-year-old school board member who formerly served as the mayor of San Luis, Arizona. She sounds like a model citizen, doesn’t she? Yet, this selfsame geriatric public servant was sentenced to thirty days in jail for the felony of ballot harvesting, in addition to receiving two years of probation. Although Fuentes had hoped to avoid jail time, the judge said that he doubted she had taken full responsibility for the crime.
You can choose to ignore the anecdotal evidence and even the statistical evidence if you really want to, but you cannot ignore the guilt of Guillermina Fuentes. The stakes are too high in our elections to ignore the threat of interference. If the sanctity of the vote really is as precious as politicians on both sides of the aisle claim, then we should all agree that everyone who intentionally violates the integrity of our voting system at any level should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
This isn’t a left or right issue. This isn’t the elephant versus the donkey. We are talking about the foundation of what it means to be an American. In this nation, every citizen’s voice should be heard. If we truly believe that, it is time that we start acting like it.
