Washington, D.C.: “We have sounded the alarm about voter confidence issues since 2020, but Arizona still hasn’t gotten the message two years later,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “The absolutely astounding information about long lines, ballot box issues, and a host of other troubles on Election Day particularly in Maricopa county has turned into a full-blown scandal.
“A new report reveals that more than 62% of tabulators had significant problems, causing many voters to deposit their ballots into a ‘we promise it’ll get counted later’ box, spoil their ballot and re-vote, or simply give up and leave without voting. For all the Democrats who complain about election integrity laws being aimed at ‘voter suppression,’ this sounds an awful lot like a Democrat county running a well-oiled vote suppression machine.
“Despite the bombshell reporting, Maricopa County is refusing to admit just how far these problems go. The fiasco has attracted the attention of the Arizona Attorney General’s office, which officially launched an investigation into the general election. This is a vital step, and their investigation must bring all the issues to light. I have said over and over that without a transparent process that quickly counts the votes and produces election winners, voters lose confidence and abandon the system. Our election laws and the authorities that oversee them ought to have an unshakeable goal of efficiency and transparency. Maricopa County, Arizona, seems to be doing its best to avoid both.”
