Washington, D.C.: “It’s official: by definition, the United States is in a recession, and no turns-of-phrase will get the Biden Administration out of that fact,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “Today’s GDP numbers show -0.9% growth in Q2 of this year. The White House press secretary tried to claim this week that the definition of a recession is different than what it is (two consecutive quarters of negative growth). She tried to spin a bunch of facts and economic figures, but the truth is inescapable. The numbers speak for themselves.”
“It really doesn’t matter if unemployment is inching down or investments are up,” continued Martin. “The fact is that our economy is shrinking — going the wrong way. This is officially, definitively, a recession no matter what the Biden Administration says. They can tout all the ridiculous chump-change drops in gas prices they want, but Americans know that they purposefully are destroying our energy markets and our economy. With rising prices across the board and a White House disconnected from reality, it’s not surprising that Americans are reaching a boiling point. It’s time to change course.”
