We’ll hear from John Schlafly in just a few moments. We actually didn’t hear From him last week he was giving me some grief, uh. We missed him last week. We’ll hear from him this week and probably again a second time. He’s got a column coming. His column, the Schlafly Report he writes with his brother Andy, runs over at Townhall.com Tuesday evening. We’ll also talk with Ted Malloch, our old friend Ted Malloch, about his recent column and a lot going on. But what you need to know today.
What you need to know, right now is the breathless coverage of Donald Trump being arraigned in New York City, the New York County District Attorney, it’s often referred to as the Manhattan District Attorney. That is incorrect. It is the New York County District Attorney’s office, and they the main office is in Manhattan, so you’ll often hear it shorthand, Manhattan DA and Mr. Bragg Mr. Bragg has indicted a ham sandwich in this case, Donald Trump. The old joke goes you. A grand jury can indict a ham, ham sandwich and the joke, of course, is because a grand jury by definition hears only one side of the story. A grand jury does not hear a defense lawyer. It does not hear cross examination. It hears what the prosecutor wants to present in the best light. For the prosecutor. There is no obligation. There is a moral obligation, an ethical obligation of duty. But there’s no legal obligation to present all of the exculpatory evidence or what might be arguably exculpatory. So what happens is the joke is, you know, if you present, if you want to, if you’re a prosecutor, you can indict a ham sandwich because you can just present it, things in such a way. That someone will get indicted. That’s the joke. In this case, Donald Trump. He’s being indicted. It looks like, we don’t even know. We’ll find out more details. Maybe. If they’re not under seal, we’ll find out what exactly the many, many counts are. But the leaks so far have been that they are one felony charge related to the fact that there were other misdemeanors. That might have been done in furtherance of a felony. This is some sort of a supercharge that the law in New York allows. It’s crazy. It’s silly, it’s dumb. But here’s what you need to know.
On Twitter at about midday on Monday, I noticed that there was real. It was about maybe it was 2:00 o’clock on Monday afternoon. I noticed on Twitter that there were a couple of tweets and then I realized it was more than a couple and it was people complaining that MSNBC. In particular, but also CNN and everybody was covering Donald Trump down to the minute. So I stopped what I was doing and I went and took a look. And what I discovered and what you need to know. Is once again, they are underestimating Donald Trump. Once again, they are misunderstanding Trump’s strength and his style.
And that’s because starting at around noon East Coast time on Monday, there was literally like minute by minute coverage. They had helicopters over Mar a Lago that shot video live. We got live footage of the motorcade from Mar a Lago 3.87 miles. To West Palm Beach International Airport. Now let me pause and tell you something interesting. When I was at in in Palm Beach a few weeks ago, we finished the meeting at the at the Mar-a-lago at Mar a Lago with President Trump. And we got into our car and we drove and my friend was driving. I was with Cynthia Hughes, the founder of the Patriot Freedom Project and our friend, her husband. A friend of mine was driving a big SUV and as we drove, we went past the airport and there sort of right within sight really well positioned was what they called Trump Force One, the big, beautiful jet painted, you know, Trump on the side. And we all sort of had a chuckle. There’s Trump no matter what he’s got. You know, he’s got visibility and people are seeing his stuff. Well, the coverage on Monday of Trump was just it was all breathless. Then they had breathless coverage of of the take off of the plane. Then they were tracking the plane then. It landed in New York and they were tracking it in New York.
And here’s the complaints. That I saw on Twitter. Why are you covering Trump like this? Did. Don’t you remember 2016? These were from liberals. What are you doing? Don’t let this guy get all the attention. These are from liberals complaining about their own station. MSNBC and I realized that the media is so desperate for attention and they have such terrible ratings. Last week, the ratings that came out in prime time. I think it was had. Fox beating everybody easily. MSNBC having a little bit I don’t know, a million people watching in prime time and then and then CNN had like nothing like 300,000, something ridiculous, something really anemic. And my point here is the media is even — online – they’re right, on Twitter, they’re right. The Liberals are right. These are rank and file liberals, not people I recognize their name or anything, and they are correct, and they’re correct in this.
They are falling into the Trump trap because they don’t, actually they they haven’t been covering Trump moment to moment because they wanted to ignore him. They used the excuse of January 6 was a total lie to drop him off of social media and to not cover him. And they haven’t figured out how they were gonna get back to it, now they do.
It’s gonna be America’s trial, America’s trial. And they’re gonna cover it breathlessly. But here’s the trick.
Trump loves it. Trump loves it because he positions himself as it’s him against the world. He positions himself as the outsider. No Republican, no, even even the greatest fighters, the greatest battlers of the Republican Party, haven’t been forced into court while they’re running for president. And even the toughest hombres, even Reagan or W Bush. In 04, they didn’t get pushed into court, arrested and arraigned. Trump is becoming like a political hero, a political persecuted prisoner and a hero, and now the judges says, is threatening to gag him. You know, Roger Stone’s been all over social media saying, hey, they’re definitely gonna gag Trump, the the the judge is not gonna let him talk.
Do you think that’s going to stop Trump? What are they going to do, imprison him? Honestly!
And so those Twitter, those Twitter folks, those those liberals on Twitter are exactly right. But you know what? What you need to know is they cannot stop themselves. The media cannot stop themselves from covering Trump because they need it. They need Trump. Trump is what they need to do what they’re doing. To I mean to keep doing what they’re doing to have news programs. And so they’re actually, they’re secretly thrilled. Andrea Mitchell, secretly thrilled not so secretly, even. She clearly you know. Moment to moment coverage and even Andrea Mitchell. I think they were. She was getting complain because she was actually saying it doesn’t seem like. The charges are too strong and we’ll see. We’ll see. But what you need to know is once again, just like Hillary and those and those at that time. Remember they said Ohh Trump is a cartoon character. He’s a he’s not gonna be serious. There’s no way he can win. He’s never done this. He’s not. He’s not capable of doing this. No way, no way.
Well, he did it. And in this case in 2016, he only won the election by less than 150 thousand votes in three or four states total and in 2020 he only lost by 55,000 votes in three or four states. So it’s going to be divided, the election. And Trump is riding the wave, the energy wave and it’s over in the primary. It was over before I called that, but it’s over for sure now. You can bet your bottom dollar on that.
So you’re watching an unbelievable show and Trump is, you know, loving every minute of it. And he’s gonna keep loving every minute of it all the way down to the end and and I I think.
You know another quick thing, what you need to know. This week, pardon me. This week is one of those weeks that is dead for the media. Here’s how you know, if you want to know that it’s a dead week for the media, here’s how you know, you go and you get you go to Politico. And when you get to Politico, you look at the stories and you say to yourself, how many of these stories could have been written two weeks ago? Front page of Politico AOC is now a part of the Democrat establishment and doing blah blah blah and another story on Mike Pence and his campaign, think pieces that are written two weeks earlier. So everybody can go on vacation. The media loves to go on vacation right about now and for this week because it’s Easter week, Congress left on last Thursday and Friday. All the members are gone for two weeks. The Senate and the House. All the staffers are gone. It’s an exodus. It’s a ghost town down there, and they don’t want to cover and you know who steps into it. Here’s Donald Trump. Who’s going to be the center of the universe. For the next what? Two weeks, 10 days. It’s amazing. That’s what you need to know.
