St. Louis, MO: As the 2020 election cycle continues to heat up, President Trump is stealing thunder from the Democratic Party this week as the White House celebrated the success of the First Step Act. Several former inmates who have been released through this program already this year joined the President to talk about their experience.
“It’s truly wonderful to see a president — a Republican no less — tackle an issue like prison reform and meet success,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “The incarceration system in our nation is grossly bloated, often ineffective, and wildly expensive with state and federal tax dollars. The President’s work to rehabilitate and re-enter into the workforce those convicted of lesser offenses has met great success. The stories last night at the White House ceremony of those who have been released and already found work and financial gains in this booming Trump economy were truly heartwarming.
“It’s further proof, if the nation needed it, that President Trump truly is working to better the lives of all Americans. This is a huge 2018 win for the President that is paying off for Americans who made mistakes and are now ready to move on and prove their value to society again. Bravo, Mr. President.”
