Don’t Buy The Narrative — The Great Divide In America Isn’t Simply Trump’s Fault
Washington, D.C.: “Swamp monster ‘Never Trumpers’ have reared their heads this week, swooping in to prey on the fear and confusion of conservatives in the wake of the mixed-bag midterms,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “Unfortunately their narrative is catching the attention of many conservatives who are rightly worried about why the Red Wave wasn’t as bombastic as they had been promised.
“We’ve all heard their pernicious narrative by now. They’re saying if Trump would just go away, it would all be better or it’s his fault we lost! They want us to believe that Tuesday’s lackluster results are a repudiation of the Trump-endorsed candidate block, and that it sealed the deal for conservatives to find a better candidate in 2024.”
“I have news for conservative voters,” Martin continued. “Don’t buy the lies. What we are still witnessing now is the transformation of election laws and processes away from an ‘Election Day’ and into an entire ‘Election Season.’ This shift to voting weeks early and counting days late after is a horrible shift for America, and one that state legislatures must rein in immediately. There’s a reason that paper ballots and all-in-one-day voting is how we have run elections for two centuries! It works well and leaves very little wiggle room for campaign surprises or election authority shadiness.
“Likewise, key pro-life ballot issues in (mostly) red states like Montana and Kentucky reveal a deep values-based divide between citizens. Neither state had significant attention from Trump, both states had resounding Republican victories, and yet both states substantially voted down clear-cut life affirming ballot measures. I think it’s very revealing of a much deeper cultural battle that we still must win on values far deeper than a like or dislike of Donald J. Trump.”
Martin concluded, “Don’t buy into the hype of political pundits. Conservatives had some stinging losses Tuesday along with some joyous victories, and there are still more to come! We also came face-to-face with several key problems. We must address those and march forward, but conservatives would be foolish to throw out a dynamic leader now who carries with him a huge voting block of working Americans. Don’t buy the narrative!”
