Washington, D.C.: GOP Ranking Member of the House Intelligence Committee Rep. Devin Nunes this week sent a criminal referral to Attorney General William Barr. Nunes alleges that significant misconduct took place during the Russia investigation. Stories like this have escalated this week as even AG Barr publicly acknowledged that he believes “spying” on the Trump campaign took place.
“For over two years we have heard about wiretapping and illegal surveillance that took place against the Trump campaign in 2016,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “As Mueller’s Russia probe flopped, investigative attention is turning toward this monstrously expensive and obtrusive attempt by the deep state to meddle in U.S. elections and governance.
“Even this week, former CIA chief James Clapper and former FBI chief James Comey have played dumb. They’ve responded with feigned ignorance and outrage. The reality is that the deep state is getting caught. Their ridiculous Russian Nothing Burger has ended and it’s time to investigate and catch their meddling red-handed. We wish all speed to Attorney General Barr as he pushes aside partisan, deep state gamesmanship and investigates the truth.”
