Washington, D.C.: “The troublemakers at the Environmental Protection Agency are striking again, this time in what can only be interpreted as an assault on the U.S. economy,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “It’s not secret that the main accomplishment of the swampy bureaucracy supposedly aimed at environmental protection has been to make life miserable and expensive for American businesses.
“One of the crown jewels of this frivolous agency is the Obama-era ‘Social Cost of Carbon’ program, started in 2009. For more than a decade, the EPA has imposed a $51-per-metric-ton damage penalty, but a new rule announced this month shows that they intend to raise it to $190, going up hundreds more in the coming years.”
Martin concluded, “I can think of no better way to kill our economy faster than this. On top of Biden’s inflation bonanza, the EPA is now going to almost quadruple costs on a host of industries — energy, manufacturing, even farming! This so-called damage factor applies even to fertilizer, so let’s not pretend that such a drastic change from such a noxious federal agency wouldn’t result in immediate costs coming to America’s gas tanks and dinner tables.
“The new GOP-led House of Representatives needs to rein in Biden’s swampy bureaucrats pronto before they finish off the American economy once and for all.”
