SOTU Recap: Sweeping Platitudes, Market Meddling, Stealing Lines From Trump
Washington, D.C.: “Last night’s State of the Union was simultaneously disturbing, discouraging, and comical,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “President Joe Biden put forth more platitudes than policies and the policies reek of Big Government.
“In one breath Biden demanded price changes to a host of private sector goods and services and in the next called himself a capitalist who wants more competition, not extortion. Democrats applauded, but of course most of them realize how ridiculous and incongruent this set of statements really is.
“Throughout the hour-long speech, Biden took breaks from government expansion policy suggestions to repeat platitudes exactly opposite from the the last five years of Democrat rhetoric. Suddenly they’re not defunding the police and we are securing the border? In fact, the phrasings often rang so familiar I wondered if we were headed for another Biden plagiarism scandal!
“On the whole, the clear takeaway from President Joseph R. Biden’s first State of the Union speech is that Democrats are absolutely petrified about the shellacking that is coming for them in the midterm elections. Last night’s speech makes one thing clear: when the poll numbers get scary, Democrats will say anything and mimic anyone to make America like them again.
“It won’t work, this time. We the People know better! The left can magically change the science, miraculously lift mandates, and wondrously reword their platform, but America is done letting Big Government bureaucrats run our lives. The reckoning of 2022 is coming. We need to work now to get good candidates through the primaries, so a conservative Congress will get back to the work of We the People.”
