The question is, the question is who’s gonna be our vice presidential candidate if Donald Trump is the nominee? Now, Donald Trump is the going to be the nominee, and so who will be the VP? With Donald Trump. Trump / who? and I would like to say I I I can’t believe it. I got an e-mail from my friend Paul Ingrassia. Paul Ingrassia has been on the program a couple weeks ago now. He talked about due process and the question, he’s a lawyer, a Cornell law school grad, and we covered a lot of ground together and he very good guy and a very good writer. And he writes prolifically. And he writes on a substack, his own substack. And so he had his a post today on VP candidates. And he went through like Lee Zeldin, Elise Stefanik, Tucker Carlson. That’s his favorite. And he did include the man who I believe is the most likely to be VP. Who is Trump’s best VP?
In my opinion, there’s one man and it’s Ben Carson, Dr. Ben Carson.
Dr. Ben Carson is the best guy to be a VP for Donald Trump. I I can’t even pic- Nobody else comes close. Everybody else comes with baggage. I’m not going to take them apart, but everybody else comes with baggage. So what is it? I mean, it’s extraordinary how much the stars align to make it so that Donald Trump will be, well, not only well served, he actually needs Ben Carson, Dr. Ben Carson to be on the ticket with him.
Why? Because he provides so many things in this moment in history, so many aspects of his personality and life that are indispensable for assuring the American voters that this is a a ticket that’s trustworthy. That’s a. A ticket that’s grounded. A ticket that’s adult. And I don’t mean that in any way.
I I think Donald Trump is an extraordinary leader and he’s been an extraordinary president.
What I mean is the perception the media does it to him. The media’s been talking all the time about chaos. Ohh Donald Trump brings chaos, blah, blah, blah. By the way, it’s Joe Biden. It appears to me to bring chaos. We have chaos at the border. We have chaos in our, our, our cities. We have chaos. In our universities we have a lot of chaos in the economy overseas. There’s chaos, that’s all Biden.
But Ben Carson as VP. What does he bring?
First, you cannot be considered as a vice presidential candidate if you haven’t won at the highest level for office. You can run for Senate, U.S. Senate. You can run probably for Governor, Mike Pence was a congressman and then governor. You can run for House the House, maybe. As long as you have the the really bright klieg lights on you in a way that is is, you know, kind of. Unstinting. It’s it’s not just ohh. I was a public figure. People knew who I was. Even if you were controversial. If you run for office, you have to do the filings. You know they have to do the financial disclosures your family has to be exposed to what’s going on now. You could say, well, Hunter Biden’s family wasn’t exposed. Well, the left has a different standard, but on the right for Republicans, you have to have run in a serious race. Ben Carson has, twice. He ran for president twice and the first time he ran knee deep into the into the primary. He was succeeding before he lost to Trump. He he had to do all of the things that that, that take you go. The people are going through your sock drawer and your bank accounts. That’s what happens. And he did it and he succeeded. And there was never a whiff. Not a whiff of controversy. Of any meaningful, any, with him. And so that’s number one.
Number two, he served in government now at the highest levels, he was the head of HUD for four years and the only scandal I can think of was at one point they complained about his choice of furniture, and even that went away. He was dutiful. He was serious. The, the, the place worked. Lots of people, lots of bureaucracies. He’s got that experience. OK, that’s another.
Here’s third is just on on demeanor. He’s a peaceful guy. He’s a guy that when you hear him speak, he’s a well adjusted man. He has a family around him, his wife and his kids, and he he’s he’s a he’s a kind of a serious, kind of American person, a man, and he put it, that exudes from him. It’s it’s clear when he talks. He’s very, very he’s very presentable. He’s he’s got a fun smile. He’s gotta kind of wry smile when you see him smile. I think he’s got his eyes are, you know you’ll see him smile and I’ve I’ve only. I’ve only met him once. Formally he came to a Phyllis Schlafly Eagles event and he and his wife Candy again. She’s an extraordinarily good lady and smart lady and Talented and just a they’re just a good family and he sat at the table with my wife, who’s a doctor and and he talked to her the whole time. They talked the whole time about all kinds of things, medical stuff. And and he’s just, he’s just a very, very likable good man.
Now, here’s one that’s a little bit of a a trick. He doesn’t need to be VP or even president. He didn’t need it. He’s like Trump. He Ben. Doctor Ben Carson has been one of the most accomplished professionals professionals in American Medical history. What he did as a surgeon is beyond belief. It’s ground, it’s groundbreaking and earth shattering. It’s life saving all the time.
He doesn’t need to be president.
He’s accomplished. He actually more than Trump, even more than anyone, he came from nothing. Meaning he came from humble beginnings. It’s better way to say it. He came from a very strong. And and impressive mother. But he came from, you know, Detroit and didn’t have much financial means. And he he, he he came from all of that. In fact, he’s a member of the Horatio Alger Society, which is a Society of people who came from nothing, came from, you know, came from humble beginnings. I keep saying came from nothing. That’s not fair. But he came from humble beginnings and succeeded to the highest level. And So what you have with Ben Carson is somebody who doesn’t need to be present or need to be VP. He doesn’t need you to give him an award. He he’s. He’s accomplished deeply.
Now one aspect of that, by the way, is he doesn’t look like he looks like he could be president tomorrow if something happened to Donald Trump, Ben Carson could be president tomorrow. He doesn’t necessarily look like a guy that’s gonna run for president. He’s at an age where he may or may I. I guess he could consider it, but it’s not an heir apparent. If Donald Trump picks a VP, that’s clearly a younger guy, he picked DeSantis or he picked Ted, Ted Cruz or Rand Paul that that person would be have to be the favorite to run for president. And that would be a catch 22, both because Trump didn’t doesn’t want to have to answer that question about his VP and also it’s inevitably a hard job and frankly, you’re probably gonna get some some egg on your face as the media tries to beat up on President Trump. And so the VP, you know, has something to lose. If you’re Rand Paul, you might say, you know, I’m going to run for president, but I’m going to do it. From my perch as a senator, not from VP, anyway, he doesn’t need it. He doesn’t need it.
Now, here’s a couple of aspects of a Dr. Ben Carson, as a vice presidential candidate that are actually very important politically.
One he’s a man of faith and conservatism. No, nobody has to doubt him. There’s no nobody brings up. Well, you know. . . . I I like the I like Vivek Ramaswamy, but he’s kind of convert to being a Republican. He’s kind of new to it. You don’t really know. Elise Stefanik, she’s a congresswoman, but she was pretty pretty liberal on a bunch of issues. Now she’s more conservative. Ben Carson. You, he’s a man of faith. He’s very pro-life. You don’t have to. No conservatives doubt it. So you, don’t you not Any doubt.
Second on this politically. He is the perfect, the perfect foil for Kamala Harris. He is a totally accomplished merit based African American. He he did it by earning it at every level. You don’t get to, you don’t get to be a a a brain surgeon. At the level of Ben Carson because they say, let’s take the black guy, it doesn’t happen OK, that he his life is the contrast to Kamala Harris, who was promoted all along because she fit into the DEI of the time. That’s just true. Nobody thinks she’s there because of her talent. And I’m not judging her, by the way. There’s lots of people that get someplace. Without having great talent. But the contrast is unbelievable.
And now the last thing. He would be very attractive to a constituency that would be looking up and saying man, we are sick of the way we’re seeing this country go. We’re sick of being yelled at by liberal white women and liberal black women about how I’m we’re sick of hearing joy Reid yell at me and Rachel Maddow. Yell at me. We’re sick of it. And that’s African American men, who don’t want to be coddled like the left tries to say we should do for different people.
They they just want the opportunities. They just want the future. Ben Carson is a signal about how the future can be. Doctor Ben Carson is both the safest and the most advantageous vice presidential pick that Donald Trump could ever have. I I I’d see no. I see no way that it’s not him. Everybody else brings you complications. And remember, nobody really votes for a ticket because. Of the VP. They don’t, but it sends a message of of who’s around you, who you trust, how you pick. And I think Trump will really and they get along really, really like that. The advantages, that’s all I’ve got.
We’ll take a break. We’ll be right back. It’s Ed Martin here on the Pro America Report back in a moment.
