Parents have long recognized that our children risk being exposed to radical and destructive views in the classroom. Angry parents have filled school board meetings in recent years, but the truth of what happens in our public schools often gets buried beneath red tape and secrecy. Thankfully, examples still rise to the surface and give us a window into just what’s happening in our kids’ classrooms.
At Mildred B. Poole Elementary School in North Carolina, a substitute teacher who reportedly identified as a “transgender wolf” has been fired after parents raised alarm about the teacher’s behavior with young students. The school serves military families through the Department of Defense Education Activity school system. According to reports, parents became concerned about the teacher’s conduct with pre-K and kindergarten students and asked the legal advocacy group Liberty Counsel to intervene.
In a February 9 complaint letter, Liberty Counsel alleged that the male teacher, who identified as female and used various wolf-themed personas, had engaged in this troubling behavior for roughly a year. Parents said the teacher sometimes wore women’s clothing along with a dog collar and an animal tail and asked students to address him by names such as “Roxxanne Wildheart” or “Captain Roxxie.” According to parents, he also told students that he turned into a wolf at night and encouraged them to howl like wolves.
Some families reported that their children were frightened by the experience. One parent said her child came home worried that the teacher might “come eat” her after hearing the teacher talk about transforming into a wolf at night. The situation drew wider attention after Secretary of War Pete Hegseth confirmed on social media that the teacher had been fired. Unfortunately, this is not a recent revelation. Parents reportedly raised concerns with administrators as early as last year, and yet nothing was done about parents’ concern until bigger organizations got involved. As disturbing as these stories are, the more they reach the public, the broader and more truthful the debate becomes about parental rights and school oversight.
