St. Louis, MO: Yesterday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo launched a new funding ban on overseas abortions. President Trump has already expanded the Mexico City policy greatly compared to previous administrations. A new State Department policy went even a step further yesterday when Sec. Pompeo announced that not only would the U.S. not support organizations who provide abortions overseas, but we will now not fund organizations who are linked to others who provide abortions.
“This is wonderful news for innocent human beings and for pro-life advocates across the globe,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “Coupled with the incredible progress the Heartbeat Bill has seen across state legislatures, we are confident that 2019 is going to be a great year for the movement to protect innocent human life here in the U.S. and across the world. Our nation — the land of the free — rightly should be the foremost advocate for unborn life. It is our first and most fundamental right. We are thrilled with this new State Department policy and look forward to encouraging the Trump Administration to back the Heartbeat Bill as well.”
