Health and Human Services issues final rule on Title X barring abortion clinics from federal funding.
Washington, D.C.: Today the Department of Health and Human Services issued a final rule on Title X detailing new requirements on family planning grants. Among other things, the ruling prohibits the use of Title X funds to perform, promote, refer for, or support abortion as a method of family planning and prohibits Title X family planning clinics from being housed in the same location as abortion providers. These rules effectively end federal funding for Planned Parenthood and other major abortion providers.
“Americans have long supported the removal of federal funds from abortion and the Trump administration has delivered,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “Congress has long talked about defunding Planned Parenthood but they have not been able to deliver. The Trump Health and Human Services Department is delivering on yet another promise made by President Trump.
“Republicans in Congress and across the country should take note — this is how government delivers on promises made to the American people. They should leave the swamp behind, govern effectively, and defend the most fundamental rights we recognize in America: chiefly the right to life. Thank you Health and Human Services and President Trump for delivering and standing up for the most innocent Americans.”
The new Title X grant rules go into effect 60 days from their entry into the federal register. See the final HHS fact sheet in its entirety here.
