Victory is Propelled by Lower Courts, Silence From Supreme Court
Washington, D.C.: “At midnight today, Texas’s ‘Heartbeat Bill’ became law,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “Texas is one of fourteen states to pass the Heartbeat Bill, but only the first to enact it! Planned Parenthood and the pro-abortion lobby have successfully entangled everyone else in a web of lawsuits and court rulings. The 5th Circuit Court, however, stopped that trend cold in Texas.
“This is an incredible victory. It’s a win for the legislature of Texas, it’s life-saving for the 40,000 babies every year who will be protected, and it’s a very worthy victory for Faith2Action president Janet Porter, the original author of the Heartbeat Bill. She is one of the toughest and most relentless activists of the pro-life movement.”
Martin concluded, “We are proud of Janet’s work for the right to life and of the state legislatures that have fought to see her Heartbeat Bill made into law. I look forward to Janet joining us this month at the 50th Anniversary Phyllis Schlafly’s Eagle Council. While there will be much celebrating, Janet will be the first to remind us that there is much more work to do!”
Eagle Council 50 takes place in Orlando, FL, on September 17-19. This premiere gathering of conservative activists and leaders will be convened this year by General Mike Flynn and is hosted by the Eagle Forum Education & Legal Defense Fund and America’s Future, Inc.
