Washington, D.C.: “Texas is now the fourteenth state to put a Heartbeat Bill into law,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “We are thankful for the Texas legislature and Gov. Greg Abbott for their leadership in defending the right to life. Thirteen other states have passed some version of the Heartbeat Bill. Those measures are under attack from the lawfare of the left, and no doubt Texas’ new law will be soon. We need attorneys of grit and character to stand up in defense of the authority of state legislatures from activist courts.”
Martin concluded, “Future generations of Americans owe a great debt of gratitude to the unflappable Janet Porter for beginning this heartbeat movement. For years many said it could not be done, but still Janet fought with her eternal hope and optimism. Now in just a few years her work has far surpassed her initial goal of passing the Heartbeat Bill in her home state of Ohio. She has started a movement that has brought renewed fight to the pro-life community and has shaped wonderful life-respecting state law in nearly 1/3rd of the nation. May her enduring passion to protect future Americans spread like wildfire in the other 36 states!”
