Washington, D.C.: Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has signed the Heartbeat Bill into state law this afternoon. This follows quick resolution and passage through both the state House and Senate yesterday.
“Former Governor John Kasich vetoed this wonderful measure twice during his time in office,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “It’s quite fitting that the new 2019 Ohio Legislature hurried to pass it yet again for a new, conservative governor who has said from the beginning that he will sign this law. We are so grateful for the solid pro-life leadership exhibited by the Ohio legislature and by Governor Mike DeWine. The long-suffering pro-life activists in Ohio headed by Janet Porter have a sterling victory to celebrate today.
“This is also a great opportunity for Georgia Governor Brian Kemp to follow through on his statement of support indicating he would sign GA’s Heartbeat Bill. Though Georgia has faced much pressure from Big Hollywood and leftist elites, Governor Kemp has a perfect opportunity to stand firm and stick to his pro-life principles. The Georgia Heartbeat Bill is sitting on his desk, now passed by both Georgia state houses. He should join Gov. DeWine and Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant who signed the Heartbeat Bill into law just last month.”
