Evil takes many forms in this world, but it is especially sad when efforts to stop evil are thwarted by people in authority. Maybe saddest of all is when people are unwilling to call out evil for what it is because of political correctness. I am not afraid to say that Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf committed an evil act when he vetoed a bill to ban abortions on the basis of a Down syndrome diagnosis. Is there no decency left in governance? How can someone possibly look into the eyes of someone with Down syndrome and tell them they deserve to be systematically killed?
Gov. Wolf claims there is no evidence of abortions targeting people with Down syndrome. Either he is blatantly lying or he just doesn’t want to know the truth. Anyone with access to the internet and five minutes of time can find study after study putting the rate of abortion for babies with Down syndrome at thirty, seventy, or even ninety percent. The depravity of this tragedy probably goes much deeper than these studies even indicate. After all, it’s not like Planned Parenthood is going to readily list of the number of children with Down syndrome killed in their monthly newsletter. America will never know the exact number of children who never had a chance at life because of disability, but we can know for a fact that this is a big problem that needs to be solved right now.
Where are the liberal advocates of inclusion and tolerance when you need them? No parent should ever be allowed to abort a child because of its sex, race, or disability. Every life is precious, with or without Down syndrome. Those with Down syndrome can live happy, fulfilling lives. They are an important part of what makes America America. More importantly, each one is made in the image of our divine Creator just like you and me. They have inherent value. They deserve life. My plea with you today is that you call out evil where you see it. Don’t sit on the sidelines. These children need our help. This could be the most important stand you ever make.
