Washington, D.C.: The Pentagon announced this week two contracts for sections of border wall that total nearly $1 billion in funds freed up by the declaration of a national emergency at our southern border. The two contracts, with companies from Texas and Montana, will go to secure border walls in New Mexico and Arizona.
“This news comes but not nearly soon enough,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “Not only are illegal border crossings at record highs and nearly bringing our border patrol to the breaking point, but just last night a group of 1,000 Honduran migrants began a new caravan for the U.S. border.
“These migrants will, of course, not likely be stopping in the first or even second country they come to to escape their home. They will instead be allowed to travel straight through to the United States, where our economic system welcomes them with giveaways and free entrance to our prosperous economy. It’s time NOW to find leadership for the Department of Homeland Security who will actively pursue the Trump America First agenda and will work to secure our border and cut off benefits that are so readily available to illegal immigrants.”
