Abortion For Any Reason, Till Moment of Birth Now Protected as “Fundamental Right”
Washington, D.C.: “Governor Tim Walz and Minnesota’s legislature have dragged their state into vile and uncharted waters for abortion policies in America,” said Phyllis Schlafly Eagles President Ed Martin. “This week, Gov. Walz signed the so-called Protect Reproductive Options Act (HF1), establishing a ‘fundamental right to reproductive health’ in Minnesota. This radical law, the state’s first legislative priority this year, is very short and leaves no room for a single restriction on abortion services.
“The land of ten thousand lakes has left their left-wing comrades of California and Illinois behind. Casting aside hyperbole, the truth is Minnesota has adopted a radical legality of abortion paralleled only in dictatorships like China and North Korea. Abortion at any time, for any reason, up to the moment of birth — no questions asked. There’s really no other way to interpret the text or even the intent of this law.
“This new state law will no doubt embolden the abortion industry and give a new testing ground for pushing the limits of American law. In fact, the only thing this law doesn’t give is options to women facing crisis and their unborn children.
“The predatory, for-profit abortion industry, with Planned Parenthood at the helm, will now have unrestricted access to bully the women of Minnesota. I pray there are swift legal and judicial challenges to this disgusting new law. It must meet checks and balances swiftly.”
