St. Louis, MO: “Congress should use their effort to reject truly vile rhetoric like that of Virginia Governor Ralph Northam this week rather than censure the misquoted Rep. Steve King,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “The truly stomach-turning description of infanticide that Gov. Northam gave this week in defense of a late-term abortion bill in the Virginia House deserves the strong disapproval of every member of government and the action of every American.
“We propose that congress should censure Gov. Northam’s disgusting words with a resolution similar to the following.”

RESOLUTION Rejecting Infanticide and the Neglect of Sick Babies.
WHEREAS, on January 30, 2019, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam was recorded saying, ‘‘If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother’’;
WHEREAS Merriam-Webster’s Medical Dictionary defines infanticide as “the killing of an infant”;
WHEREAS infanticide and the purposeful ending of all innocent human life is contrary to the ideals of the United States of America, which was established according to the principle stated in the Declaration of Independence that all men “are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”;
WHEREAS while our country has often fallen short of these ideals, patriotic Americans have sought to form a more perfect Union by rejecting a disdain for the ending of innocent human life, embracing inclusive patriotism, and welcoming people of all ages who have continuously enriched our Nation;
WHEREAS Abraham Lincoln boldly led Americans through a pivotal moment in our Nation’s history by affirming the ideal that all human life has inherent value;
WHEREAS Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said “The Negro cannot win if he is willing to sacrifice the futures of his children for immediate personal comfort and safety. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”;
WHEREAS President Reagan observed, “I’ve noticed that everybody that is for abortion has already been born.’’;
WHEREAS according to a release by the Trump Administration, the United States is one of only seven nations in the world that permit elective abortions after twenty weeks, putting our nation in the company of such communist regimes as China and North Korea;
WHEREAS more than sixty million innocent lives have been ended since 1973 as a result of the anti-life sentiments espoused by those who do not value the unborn;
WHEREAS the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act of 2002 extends legal protection to infants who are born alive after a failed abortion attempt;
WHEREAS the prolific serial killer Kermit Gosnell was imprisoned for life without parole for murdering born-alive infants as described by Governor Northam; and
WHEREAS Public Law and Human Decency condemn the practice of infanticide’’: Now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives once again rejects infanticide and all murder of innocent human life as hateful, depraved, and morally repugnant acts which are contradictory to the values that define the people of the United States.
