Congress Should Demand This Protection Stay In the Federal Budget
Washington, D.C.: “President Joe Biden released his proposed federal budget last week, right before the holiday weekend. Alongside the long leftist wish-list was something particularly shocking,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “The shock comes not from an addition, but from the omission of the 45-year-old bipartisan Hyde Amendment, which prevents the use of federal tax dollars on abortion.
“No matter one’s politics, policies, or specific position on abortion, it has always been agreed that abortion is, at the very least, a morally charged issue and should not receive federal tax dollars. The Hyde Amendment enacts this very prohibition and has enjoyed overwhelming bipartisan support, including from Joe Biden in his 36 years in the Senate. That is, until the Democrat Party’s sharp left turn. In 2016, the Democrat Platform was first changed to call for the repeal of the Hyde Amendment. President Biden is now echoing his radicalized party platform.”
Martin concluded, “This dramatic shift from President Biden is a despicable groveling to the most radical leftist factions, truly a culture of death. Make no mistake, this is no attempt to govern on behalf of We the People, it is a pure and simple power grab to put federal teeth behind the dark immorality of a very few.
“Members of Congress in both parties have no other good and upright course to follow than to demand the Hyde Amendment be kept in our federal budget. Congress must not allow this insult to the American taxpayer to move forward.”
