St. Louis, MO: During a Democratic filibuster on Alabama House Bill 314 this week, State Rep. John Rogers dropped all pro-choice pretense and called abortion what it is. “Some kids are unwanted…” he said. “You bring them into the world unwanted, unloved, then you send them to the electric chair. So you kill them now or kill them later.”
These comments have sparked furor among many who are calling for his statement to be condemned. He has since defended it, citing the lack of prison reform, the plight of inner cities, and the state of health care as justification for his comments.
“Rogers’ statement may be shocking, but it is really quite truthful about what an abortion procedure is,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “This is a big departure from the typical sanitized language Democrats use about abortion. They cloak it as a ‘health care issue’ or a ‘termination’ of an unwanted pregnancy. But John Rogers calls it exactly what it is — killing an unwanted child.
“His rationale may include topics that need to be addressed, like prison reform, the plight of inner cities, and broken families. That doesn’t change the fact that it is absolutely shameful for him to continue fighting a pro-life measure after admitting that abortion ends an innocent life. This is the new normal for the Democrat party. Gone is the whitewashed terminology and distracting secondary issues. Here are the days of infanticide and killing your unwanted child sooner rather than later. It’s disgusting and must be rebuked at every level.”
