Washington, D.C.: “Last week, the Texas Heartbeat Law faced a brief pause before the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals overruled a lower court Circuit Judge,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “This is great victory in the growing march to respect the right to life of the unborn. The attention of pro-life activists remains glued to Mississippi and Texas. These states and their pro-life laws are quickly setting before the Supreme Court the biggest arguments about the right to life since Roe and Casey.
“Particularly in Texas, pro-life advocates are celebrating great momentum. After an Obama-appointed U.S. District Judge struck down the new Heartbeat Law, the 5th Circuit Court reinstated it just 48 hours later. We celebrate this success and are reminded of the incredible vision and work of Janet Porter to see this Heartbeat Bill movement fulfilled in such a wonderful way.”
State lawmakers are encouraged to visit Faith2Action and find the model for this law that is proving so resilient.
Martin concluded, “Texas has crafted a particularly effective law, and it serves as a model for states to defend the dignity and rights of children. The fight over abortion in America is just heating up. The momentum of this movement will not be stopped!”
