House Republicans signaled they will work on pro-life legislation this week; the Heartbeat Bill should be a top priority!
Washington, D.C.: This week, hundreds of thousands of pro-life Americans will gather in Washington, D.C., for the annual March for Life, the largest pro-life gathering across the country. House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) announced last week that the Republican-controlled House will vote on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Act this week, coinciding with the pro-life March. This bill, originally signed by President Bush in 2002, contains additional penalties added for doctors who fail to provide medical care for a baby who survives a failed abortion attempt.
"With countless thousands of pro-lifers flooding to the Capital, this is the perfect time for Congress to show Americans and the world that we will once again protect the most defenseless individuals among us by also passing the federal Heartbeat Bill" said Ed Martin, President of Eagle Forum Education & Legal Defense Fund. Sponsored by Rep. Steve King, the Heartbeat Bill (H.R. 490) will place protections on unborn babies once their heartbeats can be detected.
"Asking Congress for a vote on the Heartbeat Bill has never been easier" said Rebekah Gantner, Executive Director of Eagle Forum Education & Legal Defense Fund. "Supporters can easily make their voices heard by sending seven free faxes to Speaker Paul Ryan, Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Majority Whip Steve Scalise, Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte, House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Congressman Luke Messer, and Chairman of the Pro-Life Caucus Chris Smith.
"After more than 60 million babies have lost their lives at the hands of abortionists, it is time to put a stop to this killing. Phyllis Schlafly was an instrumental leader in the pro-life movement and we are proud to continue her work to protect the future generations of American children."
