Every year, the federal government spends billions in taxpayer dollars to fund state public schools. Now, states don’t have to accept this money, but if they do, then they must comply with the conditions attached. Conservatives frequently bring attention to this issue, warning that the string on the proverbial carrot always leads back to the big government stick. Well, leave it to Donald Trump to turn the tables on this issue!
At a recent governors’ meeting at the White House, President Trump politely asked Maine’s Gov. Janet Mills if she was “not going to comply with” his executive order protecting girls’ sports against boys. She indicated that she would not comply, arguing that she was “complying with state and federal law.” Donald Trump shot back “We are the federal law.” Trump continued, “You better do it, you better do it, because you’re not going to get any federal funding at all if you don’t.”
Governor Mills interrupted Trump, brusquely stating “See you in court” while smugly smiling at her table. “GOOD,” Trump shot back, adding one of his trademark zingers that the left loves to hate: “I’ll see you in court, I look forward to that, that should be a real easy one. And enjoy your life after governor because I don’t think you’ll be in elected politics.”
This 57-second confrontation illustrates just how much better Trump is than any other Republican politician. Not only is he standing up for a strong, Constitutional executive, but he’s standing up to tough, bossy liberal women. Most importantly, though, is the fact that Trump is true to his word. His Department of Education immediately opened an investigation into Maine schools. Just a few days earlier, the Education Department had announced investigations into interscholastic athletic leagues in Minnesota, California, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts as well.
Trump’s move to shut down what he accurately describes as “transgender insanity” in schools, is one of the biggest pieces of his movement to scrap woke ideologies from federal funding and workforces.
