In Florida v. Woke Disney, Where Does the Role of Government Fall?
Washington, D.C.: “Anyone watching headlines has learned a shocking bit of news,” said Phyllis Schlafly Eagles President Ed Martin. “Leftists performed a stunning reversal and are now decrying a powerful display of government! Of course, it’s not the government they fear but those who wield it properly against radical agendas.”
Florida’s lightning fast passage and Gov. DeSantis’s signing of the dissolution of Disney’s autonomous Reedy Creek Improvement District is huge news. The state rapidly responded to Disney’s escalation of the issue of sexualizing school children, and their move drew immediate panic from the left. But make no mistake, the showdown between the State of Florida and the House of Mouse is far from over.
Martin continued, “Aside from the laughable irony of Democrats decrying the government action against private companies (because this doesn’t involve vaccines), this issue opens a fantastic discussion for all Americans to have. Where should the power of government fall in giving and taking away tax and infrastructure incentives?
“As proponents of smaller, limited government, conservatives may feel skittish to praise this move by Florida. I would argue, however, that this is a government rightly using its power to uphold the morals and institutions that are socio-economically good for America.
“Hyper-sexualizing kindergartners and undermining the family unit in favor of state agent-control of our kids is inarguably bad. Perhaps it’s time for government to get heavy-handed in protecting our culture, liberty, and prosperity! As cultural Marxism rears its ugly head, Florida’s government is using their authority to beat it back. I am a staunch limited-government conservative and I say good for the legislature and good for Governor Ron DeSantis. Keep it up!”
